Autism Women’s Network Community Guidelines

As a courtesy to anyone new to Autism Women’s Network, we want to share a reminder that we are an intentional community and we will always provide Autistic-Safe-Space before all else. This means that AWN has specific posting guidelines on all our networking pages, including FacebookTwitter and our Forums.

Community Guidelines:

  • The Autism Women’s Network was founded by, and is directed by Autistic women. Our networking pages are first and foremost to support women and girls on the Autistic spectrum. All people who support our mission, as well as follow community guidelines are welcomed visitors
  • AWN Directors personally use identity-first language: eg: Autistic (Person-first language doesn’t put people first, it makes them invisible)
  • We ask that everyone posting to our networking pages be aware
that Autistic people have varying degrees of sensory sensitivities. In all likelihood, the comments posted, and language used will be felt deeply and oftentimes visualized by Autistic people
  • Hate speech, hostile, abusive and profane language will be deleted. Engaging in these behaviors will subject the commenter to being banned permanently from our networking sites
  • The Autism Women’s Network is Autistic Safe Space. All comments suggesting that sympathy should be granted to those who murder disabled people will be deleted. If the commenter persists to argue their point, they will be banned. There are no exceptions to this policy
  • All comments that state or give the impression that a lack of services is an understandable reason for parents to murder their disabled children will be deleted
  • Please stay on topic. Comments which go off topic, or include links that do not pertain to the original subject post will be deleted
  • AWN supports science based medicine, and we will not post requests or allow comments which include (but not limited to) illegal drugs, off label – experimental medication and/or experimental therapies (chelation, bleach enemas, etc) cannabis for children, and information in favor of the anti-vaccine community
  • If you are a parent, professional, or other, and you want to be part of creating a safe and inclusive environment for Autistic women, then you are welcome to be part of our community. We realize that some will accuse AWN of censorship because we don’t allow our networking sites to be a place that fosters a free for all, and open to people attempting to promote counterproductive to our mission; however we are resolute with our choice to create a safe environment for Autistic women and our allies
